You Don't Know My Name .... And I'm Trying to Keep It That Way

I am an anonymous blogger. That means I keep my name, my location and my profession top secret. Unless you are one of the few (and I do mean few) friends that I gave this url, you know very little about me. And I'd like to keep it that way.

No offense, but cyberspace is a scary place. I know that with a click of a few buttons, a few determined souls would learn alot of things that I'd like to keep hidden. Not that I have a secret life, just one that's private.

I offer this disclaimer because I encountered a few readers recently. How they made the connection is not important, but it was enough to make me wonder if I need to make any additional precautions to keep others from finding out. Luckily, these people I met are very kind and promised to keep my secret. Maybe I'm taking this thing too seriously, but I can't help it. I'd love meeting the people who read this blog. But I worry about being face to face with someone who, in the back of his or her mind, thinks, "Oh my goodness! She's the one who wrote about ...... !!!" Freaky.

Nevertheless, I will continue my blogging duties. I hope that I never get so weirded out that I have to go to extremes and make this site private. But that would be worse case scenario. Who knows -- I may change my mind and go public in the future. *Shrug* Either way, please respect my choice to be private. Thanks.

hey, hadnt been here in awhile....

I agree about the anonymous thing ...At times, I wish I had started out anonymous on my blog to avoid getting emails from strangers who address me by name...

Even recently, someone sent me an email with my first and last name with address and said they were going to sue me because they felt I slandered them on my blog

The internet is a crazy place

I will continue to respect your privacy...unless I learn that we're related and you're rich - at which time I plan to show up at your door with my hand out! :)

No, seriously, I agree with you and understand completely.

I'm anonymous on my blog, too, more for my kids' sake than anything else. There are a few people I've met through my blog who know who I am in 'real' life, but not many.

I understand what you mean. Seems like the anonymity thing only goes as far as who is reading your blog, i.e. friends or relatives as opposed to strangers.

I COMPLETELY understand. You know, I started out on the paranoia extreme. I only shared my link with my close friends and I never visited other bloggers' sites. A friend kept trying to get me to go public so that I could get more readers, but it's not worth it to me. I love my privacy. I have gotten a little more daring and shown indiscernible images & revealed parts of my ethnicity. But I think I've gotten as open and honest as I want to. Stay true to you!

Hmm...I feel you on this sis. Ya know, as private as I am in real life, I don't go to extremes on the blog privacy tip. Maybe I should reconsider, maybe not. Just the other day, one of my professors came across my blog, and that was kinda wierd, but i really don't believe my readership is all that interested in my real life and anything I may want to hide. and if there was some strange stalker-like person that popped up in real life, i've got a nice black steel deterrent in my purse for that. I'm just sayin'!!

i know someone made the connection through me. remember, a long time ago? i swear i didn't say anything to provoke it. she just figured it out. in any case, i took my name off of mine too when someone i was about to interview, an executive from some company, had googled me and read all about me before the interview. he started out the interview asking me about my dog, puerto rico and all this stuff. silly me, i was like, huh? where'd he read this??? and eventually, it set in. i still stay away from revealing too many embarrassing things tho for the same reason. most people who read frequently know it's me and i honestly don't care so much about those. but professionally, i don't know that i want people to know that i'm a head case.
